Who we are

Circle Books
Welcome to our new website (created November 2009). It’s in the early stages of development, we've just got the basic outlines down so far, a lot more to follow.
We're a group of independently-minded editors, designers and sales people scattered around the world who have come together under several associated imprints to offer alternative ways of looking at the world, and an alternative way of publishing. We began bringing out one new title every couple of months in 2004 under the O Books imprint, mostly in the Mind Body Spirit area, and are now moving up to 200 new titles a year across a range of subjects.
Zero Books started in 2009, best described by The Bookseller in January 2009;
One of the most exciting publishing events of 2009 was the emergence of the new imprint Zero Books. It publishes short, intelligent polemics on politics and culture, packing a lot of punch into about 80 pages and they are masterclasses in how supposedly tough theory can be made accessible and help us to understand society. The latest of these is Capitalist Realism by leading radical blogger Mark Fisher who has been blogging under the name k-punk for the past few years. It's a sharp analysis of the post-ideological malaise that suggests that the economics and politics of neo-liberalism are givens rather than constructions. "It's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism", Fisher spits, and his book takes in film, Baudrillard, Kurt Cobain, science fiction, mental health, bureacracy and economics...they are must reads. Circle Books starts publishing later in 2010, on religion and the humanities.
We operate both as a general trade and specialist publisher, but have set out to be a different kind of house, organized around a co-operative relationship between publisher and author, and between authors, rather than an adversarial or competitive one. Sharing information, and a general "openness" policy, are key parts of this. It’s described in more detail in the introductory copy to our Author Database, which is given in “Our publishing process” below. There’s a lot of stuff there about publishing in general, and our approach to it, and more about us. If there's anything of help to you there, whether you're publishing with us or not, that's great. It's taken us three years or so to put together, and over the next three we'll be developing it and extending it to embrace readers as well.
All the best...
